I Have Lost A Pet
If you have lost your pet, click on the links below.
The Lawrence Humane Society’s hours to reclaim lost pets are 11:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., every day of the week. The Lawrence Humane Society is closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
If a City of Lawrence Animal Control Officer impounded your pet, the Humane Society cannot release your pet until you have visited the Lawrence Police Department and paid all fees. The pick-up fee will be at least $10. Citations are possible for animal control violations. Citizens with questions about animal control ordinances may call the Lawrence Police Department Animal Control Division at 785-832-7650.
If a Good Samaritan brought your pet to the Lawrence Humane Society, you will need to pay the Humane Society an impoundment fee and daily board fees to cover the cost of care. Under State law, impounded animals not reclaimed within three days become the property of the Lawrence Humane Society and will be spayed or neutered prior to release. Read more here about how to reclaim your lost pet.
If your animal is not at the Lawrence Humane Society, we suggest taking the following actions:
Call the Lawrence Humane Society at (785-843-6835) to file a Lost Pet report.
Do not rely on photos and written descriptions. Visit the Lawrence Humane Society at least every two days to check the kennels.
If your animal is microchipped, contact your microchip company to report your animal missing and update your contact information.
Post fliers in the area you last saw your pet.
Create a lost animal posting on Craigslist.org.
Once you are reunited with your pet, we suggest you microchip your animal so it may always be returned to you quickly.
