Community Service

You can fulfill your school or court-ordered community service at the Lawrence Humane Society knowing your time and efforts will directly help the shelter animals. Please review the guidelines below then call (785) 843-6835 to register as a Community Service Volunteer (CSV).

We accept CSVs seven days a week. You must pre-register. If you do not show up for your assigned shift, you will be dropped from the program and asked to perform your service elsewhere.

Wear durable clothes and enclosed rubber-soled shoes. Be prepared to help us clean the shelter.

Please park across the street at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Check in at the Main Lobby.

You must present a current photo ID.

If this is court-ordered, bring court documentation of offense. We do not accept those convicted of violent crimes or animal neglect/abuse crimes into this program.

Because volunteer training is not provided, school and court mandated community service volunteers have no contact with shelter animals or the public. Volunteer time may be spent performing the following duties:

Washing dishes

Washing/disinfecting animal crates

Cleaning/disinfecting animal kennels
