The Lawrence Humane Society announced Friday it has received five dogs that were saved from dogfighting cases by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The five dogs at the Lawrence Humane Society came from a rescue effort in the southeast part of the U.S. where 30 canines were rescued from dogfighting. For the past several months, the dogs have been cared for by ASPCA staff before being transported to shelters.
