Spay and Neuter Program
Each hour of each day 5,500 dogs and cats are born in the U.S. Many of these pets are unwanted and sadly, millions are put down. Others are abandoned, neglected, and abused. To help lessen pet overpopulation it is vital that pets are spayed and neutered. One unaltered animals can produce thousands of offspring. Each year the Humane Society is inundated with hundreds of unwanted puppy and kitten litters.
The Lawrence Humane Society encourages spaying and neutering all companion animals. When funds are available, the Society offers financial assistance through vouchers ($60 for a dog; $40 for a cat) to those who cannot otherwise afford to alter their pets. Please call the shelter at 785-843-6835 and ask if vouchers are available.
The Humane Society gives out more than $28,000 in funds annually toward spaying and neutering pets. However, we often run very low on money and are unable to provide vouchers. We welcome you to donate to our Spay and Neuter Fund and make a difference in pet overpopulation. Please read about our Donation Programs, or call us at 785-843-6835.
