As a local nonprofit organization, the Lawrence Humane Society relies on community support to provide shelter to more than 3,500 stray and homeless animals a year. Contributions to the Lawrence Humane Society directly support emergency veterinary care for injured and ill animals, general shelter operations, and animal cruelty and neglect investigations and prosecutions.
Our $1.2 million annual budget comes from three major sources:
Fundraising events, corporate sponsors, and individual donors,
Fees for services such as adoptions, retails, surrender and reclaim fees, and
Stray animal boarding vendor contracts with the City of Lawrence and Douglas County.
