Make a Difference — Volunteer!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Lawrence Humane Society!

Lawrence Humane Society volunteers give their hearts, their time, and their all to provide love and support to the homeless pets in our care. Our volunteers are integral to our mission, and are involved in all areas of the shelter. As a member of our volunteer family, you’ll help save and enrich pets’ lives, improve animal welfare in our community, make new friends (two- and four-legged), discover new skills, and enjoy plenty of wagging tails, purring hearts, and wet kisses along the way.

Essential Volunteer Capabilities

Working in an animal shelter is an exceedingly rewarding, yet uniquely challenging experience. With high levels of noise, occasional crowds, uneven terrain, and working with a non-verbal population, the daily environment is not one may not be suitable for everyone.

In order to ensure the safety of the animals in our shelter, as well as the volunteers that provide them with care and enrichment, we have compiled a list of the essential volunteer capabilities needed for participation in the volunteer program. We hope this document will be a helpful tool when deciding if the Lawrence Humane Society is the right volunteer opportunity. Click here to view our Essential Volunteer Capabilities.
