My husband and I had been looking for a dog for several months back in 2017. We checked the Lawrence Humane website almost daily and visited several times to meet dogs we saw online. Our daughter kept telling us we would find our dog — “She’s out there waiting for you,” she would say. One day in early April, I became a bit discouraged and wasn’t checking the website as frequently. For some reason, late that afternoon I decided to look–and there she was. The minute we saw Bella we thought she might be “the one.” We called immediately to make sure she was still there, and made our way over to LHS right away. It was truly love at first sight! Bella was standing quietly, looking out at us from her kennel as if to say, “What took you so long?” We paid our deposit and went home to get everything ready for our new family member.
When we came the next day to pick Bella up, she acted like she’d been with us forever. She hopped right into the car, and we were on our way. Within a few blocks of LHS, a fire truck came by, sirens blaring. Bella immediately jumped into my lap seeking comfort from her new mom. When we got home, it didn’t take long before she settled right in. It was clear she’d lived in a house before but we also knew she’d been on the street for a while before being picked up by a kind dog lover in Hot Springs, Arkansas, before she was transferred to Lawrence.
Bella has been with us almost 4 years now, and we are so grateful to LHS for such a perfect match. Bella loves walks, people, other dogs, and even our daughter’s tuxedo cat. She is a great traveler and has been on many trips with us. She enjoys being outside and active, but is also content to just be with us. Thank you, LHS!!
