Visiting the Cats for a Day!

Currently at the Lawrence Humane Society, there are a number of kittens and cats who are ready and eager for adoption. When visiting the humane society, there were plenty of cats to choose from to foster or adopt in order to get to know them and their qualities before taking them home. The age of cats ranged from new kittens to over ten years old, there were plenty of differing personalities that individuals looking to adopt can come across when visiting the humane society.

At first, I began with the kittens, spending time with Moose, a nine week old, domestic medium-hair mix. His personality was very lively and he spent much of our time exploring differing locations and smells and jumping around. He was quite the curious cat, and very human friendly, especially with a new face.

The second cat I got to know was The Griddy, a five year old domestic shorthair mix. She was a cat with quite the personality, loving to interact doing fun activities like jumping up against the window and trying to play. She has been at the shelter for quite some time, but is loved and a favorite by much of the staff, who also play with her on the daily and give her quite the attention.

I then went on to meet Schoop, a three year old domestic shorthair mix. Her personality could be described as calm and quiet. She was a much more gentle cat, enjoying being pet and relaxing quite a bit. She admired much of the attention she was receiving and was very human friendly, quickly becoming accustomed to new people. She didn’t require too much attention and was very friendly.

Groucho is a 12-year-old domestic shorthair mix, who was very active and loved the camera. His personality was more fun and lively, creating an environment where he wanted to play and jump around rather than calm and quiet. He was also very friendly and enjoyed being pet and having some interaction with humans.

Along with these cats, were a number of other adoptable cats I got to meet and enjoy the day with who are pictured below. The Lawrence Humane Society provides the experience of coming in and meeting new cats as well as volunteer opportunities for those who are wanting to help out the community and keep the lives of these cats more interesting and entertained, until they are eventually adopted. The humane society encourages community members to visit and get involved in order to help these cats get fostered, adopted, or just have a good time during a daily visit.
