We had a delightful time reading books and raising money for Douglas County’s one and only animal shelter in the month of November! Participants joined for free and set goals for how many books they wanted to read (or listen to). They asked friends, family, and co-workers to “pledge” an amount for every book read. Together, we raised $4,237 and read 333 books – woohoo!
Of the 57 participants, one of them was an entire kindergarten class at St. John! They read over 100 books in November together! Staff member Sydney Martin, and her dog, Mullie, visited the class to teach the kids about what awesome things Lawrence Humane does for our community and how their reading/fundraising makes a difference for the pets in our care!
Congratulations to Ava Gray, April Sikes, and Alison Berger, and Kylie Kay Jackson for each raising over $350 and reading nearly 50 books combined! And to Nola Baker, the winner in the kid’s category who read 22 books!
Other notable contributions include the fabulous staff at Raven Bookstore, who read 28 books and helped raise $375 for the pets and people of Lawrence Humane! An additional thanks to Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation and the Art of the Groom for forming teams and participating. We had the best time being in community with all you animal-loving bookworms!
