ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:

Adopters must be at least 18 years old and present a valid photo ID at the time of adoption. If you have a dog at home and are interested in adopting another, you are welcome to bring your resident dog for a meet! In select cases, we may strongly recommend or require children or other dogs to meet your new dog prior to adoption.

All dogs must go home with a collar and leash; all cats must go home with a collar and carrier. All items required for adoption are available for purchase. Adopters are also welcome to bring their own collars, carriers, and leashes.

PROCEsS & FeEs

Adoption fees vary by animal. The Lawrence Humane Society utilizes variable adoption pricing. The higher adoption fees for more desirable or easier-to-adopt animals leave a financial legacy for the animals in our care who need extra time, TLC, or medical care before they can be made available for adoption.

You are guaranteed to receive a lifetime of love from your new best friend! In addition, as part of your adoption fee, your pet will receive:

  • All pets are spayed or neutered prior to adoption
  • Age-appropriate vaccines
  • Registered microchip
  • Science Diet pet food (dogs and cats)
  • Free wellness exam by a participating local veterinary hospital within 10 days of adoption
  • Companion Protect pet health insurance precertification and enrollment opportunities.

ADOPTION HOLDS:

The Lawrence Humane Society understands that sometimes, you need a little extra time to make a decision.

If you’ve already met one of our amazing pets and would like to bring additional family members to meet your potential pet, introduce your resident dog to the dog you’re interested in, or just need time to get your home ready for your new arrival, placing an adoption hold on your potential new pet will guarantee that he or she will not be adopted during your hold period.
